Welcome to the Delaware Valley Dalmatian Club

It is with great sadness that we pass along the news of the passing of one of our founding members, Nancy Reiter.

Nancy A. (Hess) Reiter, 84, of St. Lawrence, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2025 in her home. She was the widow of the late Bruce Reiter. Born in Tamaqua, PA, she was the daughter of the late Raymond M. & Mary Ellen (Lawson) Hess. Nancy graduated from Reading Central Catholic and RACC with her Associates Degree. She was an office manager for numerous different companies. Nancy bred and showed dalmatians for over 50 years where she won many awards. She was a lifelong member of Berks County Dog Training Club, as well as a member of the Dalmatian Club of America. Nancy chaired the 1992 Dalmatian Club of America National Show in Reading, PA which to date still holds the record for the largest amount of entries.

Nancy is survived by her children; Paul Zimmerman, of Reading, and Rebecca Smalley, of Reading.

The Delaware Valley Dalmatian Club (DVDC) was organized in 1974 to bring together Dalmatian fanciers located in Eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. The purpose of the Club is to celebrate Dalmatians as a breed, to exchange information and ideas, to provide encouragement and support to fellow members when needed, and above all to enjoy ourselves, each other and our spotted companions.

The objectives of the DVDC are:
  • To promote understanding of the breed
  • To provide a forum to discuss and learn about the breed
  • To educate the public about the breed
  • To act as caretakers of the breed
  • To encourage personal good conduct, respect and sportsmanship in all our dealings with fellow DVDC Club members and other dog people, directed toward the best interests of the DVDC Club and the Dalmatian breed.

DVDC holds regular meetings throughout the year in various locations in Eastern Pennsylvania.  Our meetings serve as social gatherings and opportunities to conduct DVDC business.  In addition to our meetings, we run Dalmatian specialty dog shows in December and a Fast Cats event weekend in May.  Many of our members are involved in various AKC activities and competitions and participate in other canine activities like pet therapy.  Above all, we enjoy our dogs and the company of our fellow Dalmatian fanciers.
